Editor,
The concert last Saturday afternoon at Oak Harbor High School by Whidbey Island’s own Saratoga Orchestra was out of this world and superb.
It is wonderful to have such a quality orchestra right here on the island. With the drive to Seattle becoming ever more problematic, these local concerts by the Saratoga Orchestra are truly a gift. Anna Edwards, music director and conductor, put together a mix of musical offerings — including “Star Wars Suite,” theme from “Star Trek,” “Blue Danube Waltz from 2001: A Space Odyssey” and ending with a rousing “Stars and Stripes Forever.”
Special guest was Whidbey Island resident and Navy Capt. Heide Stefanyshyn-Piper, a retired NASA astronaut who flew two missions to the International Space Station.
Heide shared videos of her missions and showed us a view of our beautiful island from space. The next concert is on Dec. 3 at the First Reformed Church.
You might want to mark your calendar.
