Nude club has many drawbacks

While it is commendable that Ms. O’Kelley wishes to put her five children through college and sustain a comfortable living as she stated, her desire to open a nude dance club in Oak Harbor is very unsettling. I too, have five children. Currently, two are in college, one at a private college and the other attending school in Uganda.

I too, have five children. Currently, two are in college, one at a private college and the other attending school in Uganda. Times are tough, schooling is expensive, and we all are in pursuit of the American dream. But, Ms. O’Kelley, at what cost are you willing to pay? Are you willing to instill in your children the message that selling your body for others’ sexual pleasure is acceptable? Are you content with teaching your children that dehumanizing women as sexual objects instead of individuals is okay? In a culture that bombards children with pornography and sexual images, you as a mother have the job of protecting your children, not exposing them to the very deviance that you are promoting.

Or would you be pleased to hire your young son or daughter to work in this environment? Are you really content with propagating deviant behavior, all for the sake of a comfortable lifestyle? Frankly, you delude yourself into thinking that this endeavor will not have a negative impact on your children and this community.

Your nude club will drive down property values in the area, as well as bring in drug trafficking, crime, prostitution, racketeering and pornography. In addition, studies show that high risk sexual activity, indecent exposure to young girls, attempted rape, rape, and assaults on police officers increase around these types of establishments.

In addition, you will burden the police who patrol in my neighborhood with the responsibility of controlling the illegal dealings that your club will attract. If that is the way you plan to give to the community, then no thanks. Keep it to yourself.
