My family recently relocated back to Oak Harbor after a three-year stint in Fort Worth, Texas, due to yet another military transfer.

I recall that Oak Harbor was of a growing, thriving community.

Come to find out, after being back for only a couple of weeks, I think this town has gone to he-double hockey sticks.

Stores are closed and customer service has hit the bottom of the barrel.

There is a lack of quality jobs.

What happened Oak Harbor? I’ve been desperately trying to find someone to put my house back together after trying every house cleaner, yard maintenance worker and contractor.

I leave messages, and nobody responds.

I expected our property manager to protect my home here, but that ball was dropped.

There is no sense of community here anymore.

I’m finding some merchants in Oak Harbor to be rude, condescending and bitter.

Wake up! Oak Harbor has the potential to be a great little town.

Pray that Whidbey Island Naval Air Station never closes down, because that is the biggest contributor to Oak Harbor’s success.

I believe an attitude adjustment is in order.

Merchants smiling and saying, “Hi, how can I help you,” and actually meaning it, goes a long way to the recovery of a lost, sad little town.
