I don’t see the value of folks that live out of the city limits of Oak Harbor encouraging us to vote for their choice, friend or relative. I still haven’t seen what I hoped for, the candidates haven’t presented their visions of Oak Harbor in the future.
What I have discovered: Sue Karahalios sent a mailer, a nice shiny one that listed her as a business owner. Which business is that? She supposedly has connections to help the city get money for projects. Are these projects we, the residents want? Or are they to help the business community? Ms. Karahalios also used some sort of calling service to call my home. The caller ID said the number was “private.” I didn’t listen to much of her message, I was mostly trying to decide why someone who wanted my vote listed her ID as “private.” Folks are driving around with her signs in their car windows obstructing their vision. Whose idea was that?
A few days later Jim Slowick had a similar service call the house. His caller ID was “toll free.” Again basically an anonymous call. I am happy to see that the folks that were complaining about his logo can stop complaining. He has stickers on them now.
You know that in lots of cities and towns the city logo is as old as the city, they pick one and keep it forever. I would guess that since the city paid for the study they felt the need to justify it, by implementing portions of it. At least the parts they could afford.
But back to Mr. Slowick, used car dealer. You would have to have an impeccable reputation to get past the used car dealer image. Is this a tribute to the all powerful Rotary Club? At least I know what business is yours, it has your name on it. Must be a sense of pride there.
In late July, the doorbell rang. A nice lady handed me a simple one color flyer, printed for economy and ecology, on recycled paper. She was very polite and simply asked that I consider Mr. Brewer for mayor. I have recycled his simple flyer and will vote for him. Because he doesn’t seem to have any political agenda other than effectively and efficiently running the city. He seems to understand economy and ecology, two big ones in my book.
No matter who wins you have made it entertaining. Good luck to the city, we’re going to need it.
