I have worked in the Law & Justice community in Island County for almost 20 years. I have seen two different District Court judges, five different Superior Court Judges, and numerous judge pro-tems, court commissioners, and visiting judges. The amount of attorneys I have seen in action is almost scary, way too many to count.
A big thank you goes out to teen and adult volunteers at the Oak Harbor Library from all the new babies in Island County. On July 14, volunteers worked hard to put together 500 Books for Babies kits, to be given to newborns and their parents at local hospitals. Each kit consists of a canvas bag with a high quality board book, information on the importance of reading to babies, and an invitation to the newest family member to register for his or her first library card. It’s never too early to start reading to your baby!
There are several Central Whidbey pit stops where locals see each other all the time: the grocery store, the post office and the library. I usually spend money at the first two stops, but hardly ever at the library in Coupeville.
I know of at least one 5th grade Coupeville child who was vaccinated, but still contracted the illness. It would be interesting to know how many other vaccinated children also became ill.
Fred Davill’s letter concerning the tax increase to support the expansion of the Coupeville Library expresses his selfishness, lack of consideration for the general public, and more importantly, for the school children in the Coupeville area.
C’mon Oak Harbor! Let’s find the money to complete the Oak Harbor municipal pier! Ten years of plans, permits and pleasing all of the environmental powers that be, need to culminate in the construction of the pier.
I normally don’t complain about road work because it needs to be done once in a while. When I stumbled across this article (bumps on Highway 20, News-Times, July 19) it reminded me of last week when we were driving home late from the all star game in Skagit. Boom! It was like hitting a brick wall and nothing was there as if it was invisible.
The contested Aug. 19 primary election for Island County Superior Court judge is an issue of vital public importance. I fully support my colleague, Judge Vickie Churchill, for reelection and urge everyone to vote for her. I am a life-long resident of Island County, and have had the privilege of serving our county as a Superior Court judge for almost 20 years. Judge Churchill and I have served together for almost 12 years.
My strong support goes to Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen’s re-election.
Thanks for the July 19 article on the possibility of ferry service between Whidbey and Camano islands. Ferry service is long overdue and would be such a benefit to us islanders and especially those on Camano who have to make the long drive around through traffic, construction projects and at times crazy weather to do business on Whidbey or with the county.
I think that you should research before you print an article (editorial opinion, July 16, “Whidbey Island’s pertussis outbreak seems to be winding down”) that leads people to believe that you are knowledgeable on any certain subject.
Thank you for Matt McCuley’s July 16 letter and the idea that the time is now to figure out a community shelter for those in deep need.
Last weekend the town of Langley transformed itself into a Mecca for music and art lovers, with something for everyone from the art aficionado to those who can’t even spell art, much less tackle “Choochokum.” It was with anticipation that I made the drive down Island Friday night to enjoy the kickoff concert at WICA. I went again on Saturday to catch more bands and enjoy the Island weather.
