Our old “bedsheet” primary ballots were not perfect, but they stood the test of generations, and they were kind of fun. Anything seemed possible. The more standard “straightjacket” primary ballots forced upon us were just not Washington, no matter how common they were around the rest of America.
“Barbara Bailey, one of the leaders of the pack of ultra-conservative Western Washington legislators, has one of the most astoundingly…
Regarding the Aug. 20 letter, “They’ve got their house in the woods.” You seem to value the woods, open spaces…
I echo Joe Mosolino’s concern (Letters, Aug. 20) regarding letters with offensive language and deliberate misinformation. However, the nasty letter…
“Seal celebrity’s life ends abruptly (News-Times, Aug. 16).”
We, at the Island County Chapter of the American Red Cross, want to publicly thank Scott Fraser and his fantastic group of volunteers for preparing and hosting the First Annual Block Party and Pig Roast. It was a huge success and could not have been possible without the assistance of many people behind the scenes!
Just tell your readers that you have a source who knows a lot about the Republican party from long experience, that he knows all the key movers and shakers, and he has a bit of advice: People should not vote for any Republican because they’re dangerous, dishonest and self-serving. Though unable to attend the meeting at the barn about preserving the Sam Crockett house, we did talk with some of those present to hear how it went. It seems obvious that the community wants to support the preservation of Ebey’s Reserve and does not want to see the Crockett House destroyed.
Most people would choose not to be shoe-horned into a city that is forced to cram more and more people into a smaller space by “building up not out,” a favorite term used by county dwellers that “sprawl” in the county at densities of one house per five acres.
I was watching KOMO 4 this evening about the cutting of a 75-year-old tree.
The editorial policy of printing letters to the editor containing obvious lies and deliberate misinformation is wrong and dangerous to our democratic process. This is the case regarding the letter attacking Mac McDowell in the Aug. 9 Whidbey News-Times. The letter went far outside the realm of political rhetoric. Opponents to Mac’s campaign should be honest and not try to deceive the public. Printing such a letter makes you complicit in deliberately misinforming the voting public.
