I think a letter in favor of Barbara Bailey is in order. Now, I don’t agree with everything she does, but I do agree with her stand on expanding government.
I am appalled by the recent stories of the young youth leader at Living Faith Christian Center. It sickens me to read about how concerned everyone is about the young man. Did we forget about his victims, who were children, some as young as three years old?
We wanted to write and thank your reporter Liz Burlingame, the Marines of MATSG-53, NAS Whidbey, the Gold Star Mothers of Washington, the Oak Harbor VFW, the Washington Marine Corps Leagues and all the sponsors for their support and participation in the Aug. 23 running of the Major Megan McClung Memorial Run.
Steve Peck (Letters, Sept. 3) would have us believe that there are no options when shopping at our local commissary. He would also have us believe that the sheer volume of shoppers on any given day at the commissary compares to our civilian counterparts. In contrast Steve, the civilian stores only hire a few customer service representatives to handle their customers’ needs. Whereas the commissary has over 70 baggers (military family members) to assist their patrons as demand dictates.
The disparaging 14-by-8 inch attack ad against Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen in the Sept. 3 issue of the Whidbey News-Times was paid for by the so-called Leadership Council in Olympia.
The Whidbey News-Times reported Aug. 2 that “North Whidbey’s only all-instrumental music store, ClickMusic.biz opened last month to serve islanders and the city of Anacortes.” Perhaps the reporter should have done her homework before submitting this article.

To the voters of Island County, thank you for the landslide victory! I am pleased and grateful to be your judge for Island County Superior Court.
Norman Hamrick (Letters, Aug. 27) asks us commissary customers what it is we do not understand about commissary baggers. I’ll tell him. I don’t understand why most of them don’t have any customer service skills. In seven years of military life, I’ve only been greeted twice by a bagger; the rest of them just stand there, stone-faced, bagging the groceries or chatting with the other baggers.
The Boyer property mentioned in a recent letter is not at the end of any runway. You can see it’s next to Westgate Mobile Home & RV Sales and there are other businesses on old Oak Harbor Road.
