Parents left in the dark

If the information that I read today is correct, then I would like to give you my opinion as a parent. This is the opinion that should have been asked of me and the other parents of North Whidbey Middle School. But instead, that opinion was taken away from me when the administration chose to keep the allegations to themselves.

I am definitely worried about the allegations, but I am angry that the decision was made to allow this man to be near my children, without my knowledge of the investigation. We as parents should have been notified right away.

Yes, all accused should remain innocent until proven guilty, but while that is being proven, our children should not have been in his class. I’ll tell you now that if I knew of this allegation in the first place, neither my son or my daughter would not have been in attendance in that class! Nothing was sent home, no calls were made, and the only notification I received was on the front page this morning.

It saddens me that this incident has happened and I hope it does not taint the great reputation of the teachers of our community. Both myself, and all of my children have gone to Oak Harbor schools, and I am proud of that. However, from what I read yesterday, I do not have that same respect for the administrators that took the decision of our children’s safety away from us.
