I agree with Martin VanRensum’s opinion concerning the planned Zylstra-Hastie Lake road intersection improvement as expressed in the article in the May 25 Whidbey News-Times.

I live just off Zylstra Road a short distance south of Mr. VanRensom’s place. I’ve been using that intersection regularly for over 30 years — driving west on Hastie Lake Road then turning left on to Zylstra Road at the stop sign.

I’ve never had any problem there in all that time. Approaching the intersection there is a sign warning one that they are coming to a stop sign.

Then a prominent stop-sign adorned with a red flag is at the intersection.

If one comes to a complete stop and looks both ways carefully they should have no problem. If a person were to have an accident there I’d say it’s a driver’s fault, not a road fault. It doesn’t matter how much money will be spent redoing Zylstra Road, they can’t fix stupidity.

I’d prefer to see our tax money spent more wisely. How about a new bridge off of the Island?
