Surveyor should be remembered

In regard to the letter from Beatrice Morgan published Feb. 8 about naming the newly donated stretch of West Beach to the public, I agree with Mrs. Morgan that it should be named after her late husband. Having worked in the Island County Survey Department for 12 of my 21 years with Island County Engineering I came across many H.L. Morgan surveys he had done on both Whidbey and Camano islands. In my research of right-of-way, private and county properties I found H.L. Morgan survey work to be of the most accurate in verbal description, map drawing and evidence on the ground of all surveys I ever read or dug up in the field.

Mr. H.L. Morgan left a wonderful legacy behind in his survey work for all to follow. To have a portion of West Beach named after him would be a fitting tribute for such a great surveyor who has done so much for Island County residents.
