To commissioners: Island County taxpayers are more than a revenue source

In regards to your May 7 story headlined, “Island County starts new budget struggle,” one question, is this really a new struggle? Or just more of the same ole, same ole?

In my view, the current one-party liberal makeup of the board of commissioners would struggle even in the best of times to have the revenue needed to fund their insatiable appetite to spend, and it has been that spending that created all these unsustainable services that we can now not afford.

They continue to charge that these economic times are “unprecedented.” This is misinformation. While the national economy has played an unfortunate part, for three years now their budget spending has been based on speculative revenue increases. It is this philosophy that has dried up our surplus and caused these commissioners to look for scapegoats. We need reform!

We must have elected officials willing to take on the tasks they are elected to do which is to protect the rights of the individual. If we continue to allow those of authority to usurp the rights of the citizens and treat us as nothing more than a revenue source, then we will once again have slavery in this country.
