I will be voting yes on the ballot measure to increase the sales tax to support Island Transit, even though I don’t use the bus. Because of the nature of my business, I’m currently unable to avail myself of the bus service.
I will gladly choose to pay an additional three-tenths of 1 percent sales tax, which amounts to only 30 cents for every $100 purchase I make in Island County. It’s the least I can do to help make an environmental impact by keeping more cars off the road.
Many of my clients would be unable to live independently were it not for paratransit. Helping to provide free transportation to my Island neighbors is a small price to pay. And selfishly, I hope that paratransit is still available if and when I am in need.
