‘We the people’ paid for Wonn Road upkeep | Letter

Editor,

I read the Jan. 13 front page story, “Battle for Wonn Road may end with settlement,” and I’m so upset about this whole thing. It should never had been an issue.

What the Montgomerys are doing is wrong. That wall should come down. Wonn Road belongs to the people of the island — we pay taxes to maintain it and to clear bushes from both sides of the road.

That “we the people” can’t drive to the end of it is wrong. My grandson and I were driving down Wonn Road to walk the beach when a woman told us she owns the road and the tidelands. I told her “I’m a taxpayer and I can come down this road if I want. It’s on the map.”

Shame on Island County Commissioner Jill Johnson; she is not for the people of Greenbank. If the Montgomerys own the road then the taxpayers of Greenbank should be reimbursed for years of taxes for the upkeep of Wonn Road.

How can someone wheel and deal land for a county road? I guess money talks.
