Editor,
Your editorial in the Aug. 23 edition of the Whidbey News-Times is right on target. Separating Ms. Martha Rose from Island Transit is critical to regaining public trust in that organization.
However, your opinion only touched briefly on a second major step that must also be taken.
It is clear that the Island Transit Board of Directors, made up only of elected officials, has not provided the appropriate oversight for Island Transit.
To regain public confidence, the Island Transit board must be reconfigured.
The new board must include private individuals who have experience in running and/or overseeing businesses, as well as a smaller number of elected officials.
A restructured board will be capable of providing both the public policy and business perspectives necessary for Island Transit to meet its goals and objectives.
