Fifteen years ago I became a single parent of two small boys. A few years later when they became old enough, they began to use the Island Transit. It was a lifesaver. I worked on the other side and relied on Island Transit to get the boys to meet me for doctor and dentist appointments or when I took them to visit their mom every other weekend. When they got older, it gave them the freedom to participate in after school events or visit friends after school.
I commuted by Island Transit for 13 years to and from work. I have always been so impressed with Island Transit that this spring I went to work for them. After three months I’m even more impressed with Island Transit; with the number of people we transport to and from work, the number of kids that use the system and the amount of paratransit we bus everyday.
Everyday I get off work, I feel good about being here with Island Transit. I feel we help a lot of people get to where they are going. We help keep the highway more open with fewer cars and we help people get out of their homes and be more independent where they would have to rely on family members to get them around or they would have to be confined to their homes.
Island Transit is a great system, last of its kind. It’s unique, just like Whidbey Island itself. I hope people that don’t use it don’t vote it down because someday they might need it and if it’s not there in the future, who will get them around then?
Please help support Island Transit. We aren’t asking for a lot, when we do so much.
