Your Editor’s Column of Dec. 5 lamented the loss of a socializing opportunity because of the proposed curbside recycling program. Your fears are unfounded, for indeed, this will not be a real curbside recycling program. Even though you will pay for someone to take some of your recyclables, you will still need to make your regular trips to the recycling center because the program does not include glass!
At the recycling center, about one-third of the containers are for glass, but apparently that is not significant enough to make it worthwhile to include in the curbside program. So we will all still get to waste gas driving to the recycling center, or worse yet, throw our glass in the trash and let it go to the landfills. More poor service for the folks of Whidbey Island.
