Here's what's happening at Whidbey Island studios.

ARTWORKS GALLERY is proud to announce that gallery member John Ursillo received an award for distinction and cash prize at the 23rd International Exhibition of the Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA) at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta. This highly competitive exhibit, displaying approximately 125 pieces of strictly colored pencil-only art from some of the very best artists in the medium runs through August. This is Ursillo’s seventh acceptance to this show and his first award. The piece selected is his “Hydrangea-scape #2: Last Blush,” which won Best of Show and People’s Choice at the 2014 Whidbey Island Fair and Honorable Mention in the Signature Member Division of the Colored Pencil Society of America’s annual on-line show “ArtSpectations.”

An ART AND PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT featuring artist Pennie Janousek and photographer Zachary Billings will be on display at the Oak Harbor Library throughout August. The library is located at 1000 SE Regatta Dr. Call 360-675-5115 for details.

WHIDBEY PLAYHOUSE season tickets are now on sale. In September, the theater will present “Godspell,” a musical.

GARRY OAK GALLERY welcomes Shaun Marie Graham and Marie Thornton, two new artists whose work will be displayed throughout August. Graham is a jeweler, while Thornton is a painter. Email Clovy Tsuchiya at clovytpottery@gmail.com for more information.

WHIDBEY ALLIED ARTISTS’ featured artist for August is photographer Bruce Williams-Burden. Williams-Burden undertakes documentary photography projects for government and nonprofit organizations. He also enjoys capturing images that are related to nature, wildlife, conservation, lifestyle and travel.

PATTY PICCO will have her encaustic paintings at Christopher’s Restaurant during the month of August. The process of encaustic painting includes layers of beeswax over paper and pictures and full of energy.  You can also see her work at Penn Cove Gallery. penncovegallery.com

Northwest Watercolor Society (NWWS) has announced that Randy Emmons of Oak Harbor has been chosen as one of the 86 artists selected for the 75TH ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL OPEN EXHIBITION that will be on display through Sept. 30 at the Washington State Convention Center, 800 Convention Place in Seattle.
