A Whidbey Island church, seven Christian rock bands and the owner of a downtown Oak Harbor bar are holding a benefit concert Sept. 14 to raise money for the families of three people killed in a tragic accident.
Two Oak Harbor residents, 26-year-old Francis Malloy and 25-year-old Jacob Quistorf, died in the Sept. 3 accident. They were both graduates of Oak Harbor High School and were well known in the community.
Also killed was 33-year-old Brian Wood of British Columbia, who left behind a pregnant wife.
Claude Johnston, a personal friend of the Malloy family, coordinated the benefit concert at his “Off the Hook” bar at 880 Pioneer Way. It will be an all-ages show that starts at 1 p.m.
Johnston said that the members of the seven bands scheduled to perform at a Rock the Rock! event Sept. 15 at the Blue Fox Drive-in agreed to also play. Vine & Branches, a local church, is also participating in the event and efforts. Donations will be accepted at the door. Johnston said he will handle the money and that people may donate to particular families, if they wish.
In addition, Johnston said the Francis C. Malloy Memorial Fund has already been set up at Bank of America.
