The planning committee for the annual Loganberry Festival at the Greenbank Farm is looking for volunteers to help put the event together. Over 50 volunteers are needed, according to event chair Art Herrera, doing chores that range from putting up posters or acting as cashiers, to directing traffic for parking or doing trash pick up.
Some duties will start soon, such as working on publicity and layout of the site, finding reader-boards and poster friendly sites. Visitors to the weekend event, which will take place July 25 and 26, come from all over western Washington, so news of the event needs to travel far.
Wineries travel from the Olympic Peninsula to Mount Baker to participate in the wine tasting, which will feature 20 wineries this year. Volunteers are needed to help pour wine in the wine tent as well as pouring beer in the beer tent from Diamond Knot Brewery of Mukilteo. Cashiers selling tasting tickers, poster art prints, custom printed souvenir shirts, loganberry truffles and jams and many other Greenbank Farm items will be needed as well.
The festival is open to the public at no charge, but a parking donation is requested and parking attendants will be required. In addition, the week prior to the event is spent laying out the parking areas, putting the final touches on vendor booth layouts, setting up stages for the entertainment that continues from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, baking pie shells for the pie eating contests and setting up all the other activities that will go on over the weekend.
Anyone who would like to help out with the process is asked to call Art at the Farm Wine Shop 360-678-7700 or via email at wine@greenbankfarm.com. There will be a volunteer training event taking place July 11, so please call soon to get involved in that.
