Movie morning helps 11-year-old cancer patient

Sydney, a sixth-grader at North Whidbey Middle School, is staying in Seattle to receive medical treatments for a recent bone-cancer diagnosis. Her parents, Chad and Mikki Boyer, are both teachers in the Oak Harbor School District.

Join in a community fundraiser sponsored by the Hillcrest Parent Teachers’ Association and Oak Harbor Cinemas to help defray Sydney Boyer’s medical costs.

Sydney, a sixth-grader at North Whidbey Middle School, is staying in Seattle to receive medical treatments for a recent bone-cancer diagnosis. Her parents, Chad and Mikki Boyer, are both teachers in the Oak Harbor School District.

The fundraiser, a showing of Monsters vs. Aliens, will take Saturday, March 28, at Oak Harbor Cinemas, 1321 SW Barlow St.

Doors open at 9:15 a.m. and the movie reels roll at 10 a.m. Tickets cost $10 each, with 50 percent of the proceeds going to help the Boyer family. Kids in kindergarten through fifth grade will receive a free movie pack, which includes popcorn, candy and a drink with each ticket purchase.
