An upcoming battle of the bands competition will support the first ever Mr. Oak Harbor scholarship pageant.
Contestants in the Miss Oak Harbor pageant organization have been fundraising all summer to host a similar event for the city’s high school boys, which will take place in November. Like the Miss program, the Mr. Oak Harbor competition will provide contestants with six weeks of training in life skills and culminate in scholarship awards to winners.
The battle of the bands will be the final fundraiser for the Mr. Oak Harbor program. The battle of the bands will take place at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 11 at 2861 Hunt Road. The performance will feature seven local bands, soloists and musical acts. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on during the outdoor performances.
Tickets cost $10 each and are available online at missoakharbor.com/mr-oak-harbor or at the door. There will also be food, games and other activities. All funds raised through ticket, concession and merchandise sales will support the Mr. Oak Harbor scholarship competition.
The winning band will receive a gift basket with prizes from local businesses and will be invited to perform at intermission at the Mr. Oak Harbor scholarship pageant Nov. 11. Battle of the bands audience members will have the chance to vote for their favorite act.
There will be an informational meeting about the Mr. Oak Harbor program for prospective participants at 6 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce.
