Back to normal for Methodist youth

Starting in September the Coupeville United Methodist Youth Group will be back to its fall schedule. All youth in grades 7 to 12 are invited to drop in at the church from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday evenings for food, fun and fellowship.  If you would like more information about the ministries of the Coupeville United Methodist Church, please check out the church’s website at www.coupevilleumc.com or call Will Strong at 687-4256.

Peace begins in our corner

World peace seems like an unattainable goal, yet wise men like Gandhi advise to “be the change you wish to see in the world.” Rev. Dave Bieniek will explore some of the possibilities Sunday, Aug. 21, at 10 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 20103 Highway 525, north of Freeland. /e  Rev. Bieniek is ordained in the Metropolitan Community Church and presently serves as spiritual care services and volunteer coordinator at Whidbey General Hospital. Visit  www.whidbey.com/uucwi for more information.

Learn the story of an American saint

The life of St. Mother Theodore Guerin, the eighth American saint and foundress of the Sisters of Providence of St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind., will be dramatized by Sister Susan Paweski SP at St. Hubert Catholic Church at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25.

Wearing a replica of Mother Theodore’s 19th-century religious habit and speaking with a Breton accent, Sister Sue will tell of the hardships and triumphs of this heroic woman canonized by Pope Benedict in 2006 and featured in the recent book, “The Third Miracle,” by Bill Briggs. St. Hubert is located at 804 Third Street in Langley. Call the church office at 360-221-5383. There is no charge for the program but donations are welcome.
