Coupeville artists Al Tennant, Robbie Lobell and Chuck Hindes will be participating in the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts held in Seattle.

Hindes, a wood-fire potter, has more than 30 years’ experience teaching at the University of Iowa. Because of his background, he will receive a teaching excellence award.

Tennant is a professor emeritus from the University of Alaska in Anchorage. He is well known for tea bowls and Iga vessels. His work is on display at the Pots Gallery, the Clay Art Center exhibition and the L and H Project, which are all located in Seattle.

Lobell, who moved to Coupeville from Connecticut seven years ago, will  present a lecture about “demystifying flameware pottery” and will be working with a national magazine, the Studio Potter, during the convention.

The islanders are three of the more than 5,000 potters, educators and collectors who will attend the conference at the Convention Center in Seattle from March 27 to March 31.
