Garry Oak Gallery and Kit’s Camera are holding a Digital Photo Contest for Whidbey Island students. The contest, “Life on Whidbey,” is open now and entries will be accepted until Sept. 24.
All photos must be taken on Whidbey Island and be accompanied by a short description of why the image represents an aspect of life on Whidbey to that person. Applications are available at Garry Oak Gallery, Kit’s Camera and at www.garryoakgallery.com. Students can enter up to three times, one photograph per entry. Entries will be divided into three categories: K through 5th grade, 6th to 8th grade and 9th to 12th grade. Winners will be announced and prizes awarded at Garry Oak Gallery’s Second Anniversary Celebration, 5 to 8 p.m. on Oct 1. The winning entries will be displayed at City Hall, Kit’s Camera, Whidbey Bank and Garry Oak Gallery.
Sponsors are Whidbey Island Bank, Kit’s Camera, Rainbow Farms, Jim and Jeanne Valdez and the Oak Harbor Arts Council. These sponsors and the Garry Oak Gallery are donating a prize in each category, and a Best Of Show and a People’s Choice award. The public will be asked to view the entries on line at www.garryoakgallery.com and come into Garry Oak Gallery between Sept. 25 and 29, and vote for the People’s Choice award.
