The Whidbey Playhouse has two workshops in store that will transform any actor.

Back by popular demand is “Shakespeare De-Mystified,” taught by Stephen James Anderson. Classes are Wednesdays, March 14 through April 18, 6 to 8 p.m.

Take the mystery out of Shakespeare’s famous works and perform famous scenes.

Class fee is $60, or $45 for Playhouse members. Class size is limited so register at the Playhouse, located at 730 SE Midway Blvd., Oak Harbor, or by calling 679-2237.

Also offered is a new youth workshop called the Would Be Players. This program incorporates the basics of theater acting, including vocal training, body language, stage presence, blocking and more. Most of the sessions involve acting games. There will be a final script to be used in performances the last week.

Theater can really help a child mature. It’s a team sport; everyone has to do his or her part in order to make a production work. The enormous pressure can help pull a shy child out of his or her shell.

Theater teaches children discipline, how to build relationships with peers and it takes a child away from the television, computer or mall and forces them to socialize.

The program is open to ages 10 to 18 and lasts nine weeks with rehearsals Mondays and Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Performances are April 30 and May 1.

The cost is $50 per child.
