The Hive Salon team has been busy for the past few years, establishing themselves as Oak Harbor’s go-to source for all things hair and esthetics.
And as this “salon filled with good vibes and inspiration” celebrates its second anniversary, they’re generating a lot of buzz.
“We’re so proud of what we’re creating – an exciting, welcoming setting, with knowledgeable, on-trend style and a commitment to sustainability as a Green Circle Salon,” says owner Misty Ellis.
As part of a military family, Ellis has worked across the country and around the world. Licensed in multiple states, that experience has offered a unique, internationally informed vision she’s thrilled to share with her team and clients.
With her husband’s retirement, Ellis could look forward to taking her extensive international experience to the next level with her own salon in Oak Harbor. “It was time to take all the lessons I’d learned from all these experiences and practice my craft in my own salon,” she says. “When my friends started hearing what I was doing, they joined me!”
Today, Ellis is joined in her dream by five other professionals, and The Hive is a-buzz – a one-stop destination for hair and esthetics, everything from hair and nails to lashes and waxing.
Ongoing education is a must
Recognizing their role in bridging customers’ goals with the current science, style and fashion, ongoing training is essential for the Hive team.
“To work at the Hive, you have to be committed to continual education,” Ellis says.
“We work in the fashion industry, and that means if you’re not training at least four times a year, you’re already behind the curve, and our guests deserve the best.”
For example, your local experts are today seeing a move toward earthier tones, and even blondes are toning down a little. “We have a wonderful color room full of all sorts of options to explore.”
