Sam and Amie Weatherford of Coupeville are now officially the parents of Grace Marie Harris.

Six-year-old Grace’s adoption took place at the Island County Courthouse  on Monday.

According to Grace’s new aunt, Laureen Weatherford, the staff of the courts and the judge said they had never seen so many family and friends gathered for an adoption. Family members flew in from as far away as Arizona for the occasion.

Grace will be taking on her adoptive parents’ last name, Weatherford. Grace said she has been a Weatherford for a long time now, Laureen said.

Grace was very excited to be the center of all the celebrating. She donned a new dress with a pearl necklace, given to her by her grandmother, and a new haircut.

In the Coupeville courtroom, Grace stood up and softly said into the microphone, “I’m very happy now,” according to Laureen.
