Seven North Whidbey Aquatic Club athletes won individual events at the Thunderbird Aquatic Club Excellence meet in Anacortes this weekend.
Haley Borja, 8, paced the team with six wins. Other multiple winners were Chris Shashaty, 9 (four wins); Patty Miessner, 14 (three); and Julian Pape, 16 (two).
Cassidy Drown, 8; Alana Miller, 10; and Kiesten Tyson, 9; each added one win.
Borja, Miessner and Shashaty were named NWAC Swimmers of the Meet by coach Richard Taylor.
Both Miessner (200-yard freestyle, 11:05) and Pape (500-yard free, 5:41.37) clocked USA Swimming “A” times.
The Blue Herons posted a high percentage of personal bests, a rarity this late in the season, according to Taylor.
Jasmine Borja, 11, and Caitlin Dennen, 12, were among those who PR’ed in every event. They, along with Carter McKay, 12, were named Most Improved Swimmers of the Meet.
Four Blue Herons competed for the first time: Ava Davis, 7; Macie Koelbl, 8; Jewel Nelson, 8; and Aidan Burns, 8.
NWAC’s top swimmers will take part in the Northwest Region Short Course Championships March 10-13 in Federal Way.
The meet features the best age group swimmers from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Alaska and Hawaii.
