Results from the 17th annual Whidbey Island Giant Pumpkin Contest are in, and two Coupeville residents came out on top this year.

Lee Roof’s 714-pound pumpkin was the heavyweight in this year’s contest, with Phil Renninger’s 488-pound pumpkin coming in second. Third place went to Christyn Johnson of Clinton, whose 244-pounder not only won third place in the contest, but won for ugliest pumpkin as well.

The prize for the prettiest pumpkin went to another Coupeville resident, Neal Amtmann. First place in the junior pumpkin category went to the Oak Harbor Children’s Garden for its 186-pound pumpkin. Second place went to Eden Wilcox of Oak Harbor, whose pumpkin weighed in at 114 pounds.

There were also some big zucchini. Peter Case-Smith of Oak Harbor again took first place in the zucchini contest with his 20-pound squash, while Coupeville resident Randy Phiesfeld’s 15-pound zucchini earned him second place.

Support for the contest comes from the the Coupeville Festival Association.
