A 63-year-old Oak Harbor man was killed in a head-on accident on Highway 20 in Skagit County Tuesday night, the State Patrol reported.

Lloyd Evans was driving 1992 Honda Civic westbound on the highway. Evans’ car crossed into the other lane, striking an oncoming 1994 Mitsubishi van driven by 54-year-old Peter Anderson of Oak Harbor.

The accident was reported at 9:45 p.m. at milepost 57, which is near Avon-Allen Road. It was raining at the time.

Evans was pronounced dead at the scene. Anderson was injured and transported to Skagit Valley Hospital. He was treated and released.

Anderson is a Sound Publishing employee who was returning to the Burlington printing plant after dropping off the classified section of newspapers at the Whidbey News-Times in Oak Harbor. He’s been a driver for the company for more than three years and has never been involved in an accident before.

“He’s a great driver, a great worker,” said News-Times circulation manager Jim Pace, adding that Anderson was very shaken up about the accident.

The Honda was totalled and the van sustained an estimated $8,000 in damages. The accident blocked the roadway.

Funeral arrangements for Evans are being handled at the Hulbush Funeral Home in Burlington. His family has chosen not to release an obituary.
