Twice lately, my News-Times has arrived so stuffed with ads that it’s difficult to extract from my paper box. When put on my scale, I discovered that it weighed over one pound! At one point years ago, I called my local paper and offered to pay more for a subscription to the paper if it could be delivered without ads, and I was informed that the money they were paid for including the ads was what kept them in business.
Weekly I trudge to the recycle center weighed down by papers with ads too bulky to stockpile. In this day of “thinking green,” does any of this make sense?
