Another provider associated with Whidbey Naturals in Oak Harbor has been arrested on suspicion of practicing medicine without a license, the Oak Harbor Police Department reported.
Former Navy physician C. Hugh Jonson was arrested Wednesday by Oak Harbor police. Another provider at the holistic medicine clinic, Arely Jimenez-Beckius, was also arrested for practicing medicine without a license Feb. 16.
Jimenez-Beckius was reached by phone but declined to comment and deferred to her attorney, who could not be reached.
Police began its investigation of Whidbey Naturals after receiving information through the Washington State Department of Health Systems Quality Assurance about the business “possibly conducting naturopathic treatment without proper licensing/qualifications” in January, according to a police news release.
The arrests occurred after police served a search warrant at the State Highway 20 location.
A provider credential search on the Washington Department of Health website showed that neither Jonson nor Jimenez-Beckius have a valid medical license in Washington. Jimenez-Beckius does have a valid license as a marriage and family therapist.
In a December interview with the Whidbey News-Times, Jonson said he had come out of retirement to help get a natural medicine clinic off the ground, but that Jimenez-Beckius would be the main healthcare provider.
Jonson also said he was a prisoner of war during Vietnam, a Green Beret, and had received both the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Silver Star.
