A sex offender considered a high risk to reoffend will live on the 1300 block of Arnold Road when he’s released from prison Thursday, July 28, according to the Island County Sheriff’s Office.

Jared Vandewerfhorst, 24, pleaded guilty in Lewis County is 1999 to kidnapping in the second degree with sexual motivation and second-degree assault of a child with sexual motivation.

He served his time for the conviction, but was sent back to prison for continual violation of the conditions of his community supervision, which are basically parole violations. The Sheriff’s Office increased his risk category from middling Level 2 to high risk Level 3 because of the continued violations.

Under conditions of release, Vandewerfhorst is banned from pornography, areas where children congregate or any unapproved contact with minors. He must attend sex offender treatment, chemical dependency treatment and anger management counseling.

Another Level 3 sex offender, 37-year-old John Hartman, has moved to Snohomish County. He initially didn’t have a place to stay after getting out of prison earlier this month and was supposed to live out of his truck parked in Oak Harbor.

Instead, Hartman stayed at a hotel in Sedro-Woolley for a week and then moved to Snohomish County.

Hartman pleaded guilty in Island County Superior in 1999 to indecent liberties without forcible compulsion for molesting a relative’s 6-year-old daughter.
