The Coupeville Boys and Girls Club will host two events next week in an effort to raise funds for its general operations budget.
Jamie Scharich, director of the club, said fundraising efforts this year will be split between the annual auction and dinner and a fun run tied in with the Haunting of Coupeville.
On Saturday, Oct. 17 the club will host a scaled back version of its annual dinner and auction.
The event runs 6:30-9 p.m. at the Nordic Lodge, 63 Jacobs Road, Coupeville.
Scharich said club members will be providing the entertainment for the evening in the form of skits.
The club’s Youth of the Year, Bree Daigneault, will speak.
There will also be music provided by Coupeville High School teacher Jamar Jenkins, she said.
Attendees will dine on homemade spaghetti and meatballs and dessert, all prepared and provided by local businesses and volunteers.
Auction items are being donated from throughout the community and include vacation stays, home and garden related items, specialty meals and more. Cost of the auction and dinner is $25.
The second half of the fundraising efforts will be held the following day with a costume run/walk event at the Coupeville Elementary School track.
Participants can do either the 5K route or the one mile.
Local vendors will be on-hand with face painting and more. After the run there will be a shuttle ride to the Sherman Farms.
Cost is $25 per person if you preregister or $30 the day of the run.
Children younger than four are free. Ages five to 18 and active military are $15. There is also a family rate of $60.
“Our vision is to connect our kids with the community and to connect the community with the kids it supports,” Scharich said.
Currently, the club runs 17 different programs, eight of which are national Boys and Girls Clubs programs.
Funds from each event goes toward club operations.
Current membership is at 331 children with an average daily attendance of 56.
