Base locks down after report of active shooter threat

There are reports of an active shooter threat at an on-base location at NAS Whidbey Island.

There were reports of an active shooter threat at an on-base location at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island Wednesday at 4:25 p.m., according to a press release from the base. Base security responded to the location and cleared all locations and found no threats.

All base personnel at Ault Field were ordered into lock down status and all gates were closed. The lock down status was lifted within around two hours, and operations are resuming as normal.

Base security, Oak Harbor Police and Naval Criminal Investigative Service responded. NCIS will continue its investigation of the incident.
