Oak Harbor golfer Drew Bashor proved he can play with the best in the region, taking first at Leading Edge golf tournament held at Washington National Golf Course on Saturday.

Bashor shot a 74 on the par 72 course, two strokes ahead of his nearest competitor.

“It was awesome,” he said. “I was playing good the whole day.

I knew when I had about five holes left I would have a chance to win it, so I was really nervous.”

The highlight of the tournament for Bashor came on hole 14, when he sank an eagle on his second shot from 115-yards out.

“Sometimes when people make shots like that it’s lucky, but I knew when I hit it, I hit it good,” Bashor said.

The event was the first of a four-part series of regional tournaments that feature some of the elite junior golfers from Washington, Oregon and British Columbia.

Bashor competed in the event before, but this is the first time he has taken home the trophy.

Up next for Bashor, who is as a senior on the Oak Harbor High School golf team, is an international junior golf tournament in Arizona. He will attend the event over his spring break.
