An Oak Harbor woman is accused of a felony for spraying her ex-boyfriend with “bear Mace.”

An Oak Harbor woman is accused of a felony for spraying her ex-boyfriend with “bear Mace” on Jan. 2, according to court documents.

The Island County Prosecutor’s Office charged 43-year-old Kandice A. George in superior court Feb. 13 with assault in the second degree. George was charged under the lesser-used section of the crime for allegedly administering “poison or any other destructive or noxious substance.” Prosecutors also claim that the crime was an act of domestic violence.

The police report states that the incident occurred in the morning at an apartment on Northeast Ernst Street. The alleged victim reported that he and George got into an argument and she tried to spray him with bear Mace, the report states.

The man ran into the bathroom and put furniture in front of the door to try to keep George out. George tried to break open the door and managed to get it partly open to spray Mace inside, the report states.

The man said he tried to wait her out inside the bathroom but couldn’t stand it that long. He left the bathroom and George sprayed him across his face, the report states. He said he could not see and his eyes burned.

The man used milk to try to stop the burning. When that did not work, he went to a friend’s house and flushed his eyes.

The police went to the apartment to try to find George. They observed milk puddles all over the floor and a yellowish-orangish substance on the mirror and counter in the bathroom, as well as a fist-sized hole in the bathroom door.

In a separate case, prosecutors also charged George on Feb. 13 with identity theft in the first degree and theft in the second degree. George allegedly stole a purse containing a credit card from a shopping cart in Safeway on Christmas Eve, then used the card to buy $284 worth of items from the Dollar Tree and attempted to purchase items from the Big 5 store, according to a police report.
