Bothell stops Oak Harbor 42-14

Undefeated and top-ranked Bothell High School converted three Wildcat turnovers into touchdowns and defeated Oak Harbor 42-14 in Friday’s quarterfinal game of the of the Class 4A football playoffs at Pop Keeney Stadium in Bothell.

Oak Harbor’s offense never got on track and the Wildcats’ defensive

unit had a difficult time stopping quarterback Johnny Hekker and the

high-powered Cougars.

Bothell, the KingCo Class 4A champion, scored on its first possession when Hekker directed a 10-play, 80-yard drive capped by a 15-yard touchdown run by Patrick Ottorbech.

The Wildcats, who entered the game ranked fourth among Class 4A teams in the state, went three plays and out on their first offensive series, but got the ball back when Rashad Smith recovered a fumbled punt at the Cougars’ 16-yard line.

On the second play Chris Valencia scored, but that would be the

Wildcats’ final points until the fourth quarter.

Hekker hit Zach Schwindt on a 48-yard touchdown strike and the first

quarter ended with the Cougars ahead 14-7.

In the second quarter, Ottorbech scored his second touchdown with

10:48 showing on the clock and upped the lead to 28-7 at halftime on

a 36-yard scamper 55 seconds before the break.

The Cougars scored two more times within a span of 12 seconds in the

third quarter to put the game out of reach.

Tommy Sorensen scored on a 4-yard TD run with 3:06 left in the

quarter and after Oak Harbor fumbled the ensuing kickoff, Hekker

connected with Ben Mosschel from 24 yards out on the first play from
