A new generation of Oak Bowl Wildcats — not to be confused with the Oak Harbor High School mascot — are ready to rip into the competition.

The Oak Bowl youth league began in the 1970s and is still going strong, said coach CJ Johnson.

The youth league, comprised of teens ages 12 to 17 years old, hope to raise money through a series of car washes at Auto Zone in Oak Harbor to cover their travel expenses to the state tournament in Longview, Wash. this February.

The 15-member team placed fourth last year at the annual state competition, said Johnson.

It’s not too late to get on the team, Johnson said. The 2009 season will kick-off in October. Call the Oak Bowl at 679-2533 and ask for coach CJ Johnson or Jason Youngsmen for more information.

The team will hold two more car washes at the Oak Harbor Auto Zone, 31820 Highway 20 on Sunday, Sept. 27 and Sunday, Oct. 4.
