Bridge, port coming next?

Thanks Capt. Bruce Woods for your comments (Letters, Nov. 15). My sentiments exactly. I also read the sales flyers, hoping to save a buck in Oak Harbor. Guess what I found? Two from Oak Harbor and the rest from Anacortes, Burlington and Mount Vernon. So I am off to businesses that want my dollars plus save me dollars in return. I pass by those towns as it is now.

I have an idea for the properties north and south of town that seem to garner so much attention. Build a bridge. Start at the Boyer property and end on the Fakkema property. This would help move all the non-business traffic past Oak Harbor.

Next, we can establish a port commission and bring in container ships to replenish the businesses currently here and cut down on 18 wheelers on Highway 20. Otherwise, if unchecked business growth continues, we can call Highway 20, Aurora Ave West or The El Camino Real North, take your pick.

I actually I thought Oak Harbor wanted to be the tourist trap of the north. Apparently people have Wal-Marts and McDonald’s at home.
