Dry conditions and warm weather is prompting the Island County Fire Marshal to declare a burn ban that will start next week.

The burn ban goes into effect at 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 10.

Because of the ban, outdoor burning, even with a permit, is prohibited.  Recreational and cooking fires are allowed only in approved fire pits that are lined with concrete or metal that are found in established campgrounds, according to information from the Island County Sheriff’s Office.

Outdoor burning is also allowed on a propane barbecue, briquette barbecue or a self-contained camp stove. Any violations should be reported to 911. The burn ban will remain in effect until further notice.
