Food, fun and the Whidbey Improv Team make supporting IDIPIC as easy as cake — or as easy as canapes.
The improv troupe will be performing as part of a fundraiser for the Impaired Driving Impact Panel of Island County on Saturday, June 30, at The Whidbey Playhouse.
The entertaining evening begins 6:30 p.m. with canapes enough to serve as dinner donated by Arby’s, Dominos Pizza and Taco Bell.
The fun then kicks off about 7:30 p.m. with interactive magic and comedy.
During intermission guests can mingle and munch some more while making their highest bid on auction goodies, including a variety of local, casino and Seattle gift baskets and certificates.
This year’s event, “Comedy, Canapés, Magic & More!” has been expanded from last year’s to include JR Russell, a retired Navy captain who has turned his passion for flying into performing magic.
“We had nearly a full theater last year and with the additional features hope to sell all 128 tickets this year,” said JoAnn Hellmann, IDIPIC director.
“The more there, the more fun!”
All proceeds benefit IDIPIC’s DUI and underage drinking prevention work, which will be matched by Island Thrift, its first Partner in Prevention.
The event has received great support from the local business community with sponsorship by Farmers Insurance/Richard Voit Agency, Harada Physical Therapy, HomePlace Special Care Center, Martin’s Auto Electric, Munros’ Driving Instruction, Oak Harbor Les Schwab Tire Center, Pioneer Automotive Services, State Farm/Karmin Landry Agency and Tradewinds Insurance, among others.
“Children are our future and our future drivers,” Hellmann said, noting the alcohol and drug education IDIPIC provides to middle school health classes, among the many other programs IDIPIC sponsors.
Tickets are $17.50 in advance and are available at the Whidbey Playhouse or by calling IDIPIC at 360-672-8219.
Those who cannot attend but would like to support the cause for “safer kids, safer roads” may mail their donations to IDIPIC, P.O. Box 358, Oak Harbor, WA 98277.
IDIPIC’s mission is to deter driving under the influence and underage drinking in our communities through education and awareness, which it has done since the nonprofit community service organization was established in 2000.
Since then, over 23,000 people have attended its impact panels, of which nearly 20,000 has been for non-offenders: drivers education students, their parents, NASWI personnel (safety training) and general public.
Over 20,000 elementary, middle and high school youth have experienced IDIPIC’s safety programs.
