Careage of Whidbey and home-care agency Right at Home this month plan to offer staffers and the families of residents a chance to better understand how dementia victims experience the world.
The simulation sessions are closed to the public, though Careage may invite the public at a later date, said Tracy Kirby, a Careage discharge planner.
Participants will don special clothing and equipment that simulates dementia and then will be asked to complete simple tasks.
“This teaches compassion and understanding and gives a sense of what it’s like to live in their world,” Kirby said.
