Repairs to the ferry Chetzemoka are complete and the vessel will return to service Friday, Aug. 26, Washington State Ferries reported Thursday afternoon.

The Chetzemoka, a new boat which entered into service in January, was pulled from the Clinton-to-Port Townsend route Tuesday to allow permanent repairs to the vessel’s keel cooler. The problem forced the vessel out of service for two days earlier in August.

The keel cooler circulates fresh water from the diesel engines through the tubes that help cool the Chetzemoka’s service generator.

During repairs, the Coupeville-to-Port Townsend route was served by a single ferry, the Salish.

When it returns to service Friday, the Chetzemoka will sail as the number two vessel, beginning with the noon sailing from Port Townsend. Vehicle reservations are available on the WSF website or by calling 511.
