The Island County Children’s Commission launched a logo design contest in April with applications distributed throughout the county at schools, libraries and youth centers.
The winner of the contest, Reanne Lee, 16, attends Stanwood High School. Her “Coming Together For Kids” logo design underscores the importance of having the Whidbey and Camano Island communities come together to support children, youth and their families.
Island County Children’s Commissioner Hillary Mellish, the youth representative on the Commission, awarded Lee an island fun package filled with summer fun clothing and certificates. Donations were provided from The Star Store in Langley, “Life is Good,” Hair Products from The Next Wave, located in Stanwood and a gift certificate from Dairy Queen.
The Island County Children’s Commission meets at 4:30 p.m. the first Thursday of every month in the County Commissioners’ Room in Coupeville. The meetings are open to the public. The next meeting is August 7. Contact Dan Bond at 678-7884 for information.
The Children’s Commission was established by ordinance in September of 2007. Currently, 20 volunteer members meet monthly, with the mission of improving the quality of life for all Island County children and youth through informed advocacy and inclusive collaboration.
