The Oak Harbor Lutheran Church Watoto Mission Team will host OKTOBERFEST, beginning with an auction at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Oak Harbor Elks Club. The OAK HARBOR CHURCH OF CHRIST will hold a worship meeting at 7 p.m. Oct. 18-21. Patrick Mead will discuss “The Community of God.” Mead will take stories from the Book of Acts that show how the church functions in the real world.
The 12th annual WHIDBEY INTERFAITH VIGIL OF PEACE AND HOPE will take place at 3 p.m., Oct. 25, at St. Augustine’s in-the-Woods Episcopal Church in Freeland. The vigil will feature music, prayer and sacred scripture readings from Buddhist, Christian, Jewish and Muslim traditions. Interactive readings will highlight the problem of mass incarceration in the U.S. and introduce a presentation on a restorative justice alternative. Tom Ewell, Island County Law and Justice co-chair, and Andrew Somers, assistant administrator for Island County Superior and Juvenile Court, will present. COFFEE BREAK BIBLE STUDY will begin the fall season with a six-week study of the Apostle Paul’s two letters to the Thessalonians, some of the earliest Christian literature in the New Testament. These short but powerful books discuss what it means to have faith and how that faith can affect day-to-day living. This study group will meet weekly at 10 a.m. Thursday mornings at 1986 Country Lane in Oak Harbor. The group is non-denominational and is open to all women in the community.
