The city is expected to begin construction on a three-year plan to improve Oak Harbor Street this fall.

The $125,000 project will include the addition of sidewalks, curbs, gutters, street lighting, drainage and associated improvements from Whidbey Avenue to Crosby Road.

In their original plan, the city wanted to create a roundabout at NE 7th Avenue, but was unable to acquire the land. Instead, that intersection will be converted into a three-way stop.

Funding for the project is from a combination of federal and state grants, gas tax revenues, impact fees and private contributions.

Oak Harbor has been working with the engineering design firm of Reid Middleton for street improvements since 2006.

“This project is a long time coming,” Councilman Danny Paggao said.
