Police Chief Rick Wallace said the suspect tried to buy the beer at the 7-Eleven store on the south end of the city at about 2:15 a.m. When the clerk told him he couldn’t legally sell alcohol after 2 o’clock, the man became angry and hit the clerk on the side of the head, then left with the beer.
