An 82-year-old Clinton man was seriously injured when his motorcycle was struck by a car in a Skagit County roundabout Thursday afternoon.

The Washington State Patrol reported that Harold Hagglund was driving a motorcycle south on Highway 20 on Fidalgo Island and was followed by a 2005 Toyota Scion driven by Samantha Hermansen, a 57-year-old Oak Harbor resident.

The motorcycle and car entered the roundabout at Miller Road. Hermansen tried to pass Hagglund at the roundabout exit and struck the motorcycle, the State Patrol reported.

The accident was reported at 4:26 p.m.

Hagglund was wearing a DOT-compliant helmet but was injured in the crash. He was airlifted to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett for treatment.

The State Patrol reported that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the accident. The cause was listed as “improper passing.”
