The “Barefoot Burglar” has struck again. Maybe.

The Islands Sounder reported Thursday that Camano Island native Colton Harris-Moore, 18, is a suspect in a Feb. 11 airplane theft in Skagit County and a burglary at a market on Orcas Island.

The stolen airplane was abandoned at the Eastsound airport. Employees at Orcas Homegrown found the store had been burglarized and vandalized. Someone drew the outline of bare feet on the floor with chalk, along with “C-YA.”

Harris-Moore was dubbed the “Barefoot Burglar” after being tied to a long series of burglaries and airplane thefts on Camano Island, San Juan County and Whatcom County, apparently committing some of the crimes without shoes or socks.

Island County Sheriff Mark Brown unsuccessfully hunted Harris-Moore after he escaped from a juvenile facility and retuned to burglarizing homes in the wooded areas of Camano Island. He’s a suspect in 20 to 30 burglaries on Camano. But the deputies’ search may have smoked him out, as he moved on to the San Juan Islands and international fame.

A multitude of newspapers, magazines and TV programs have produced stories about Harris-Moore. There’s even a Facebook page and a T-shirt in his honor.
